Holiday attire, embroidered products, artistic woven fabrics and other valuable property of the family including maiden's dowry were stored in them. Chests were an integral part of the interior of the peasant hut. The most ancient of them represented an ordinary wooden box with handles and a flat cover with hinge-plates, usually equipped with an internal lock and bound with metal for durability.
