| Wooden utensils take a special position
among the products of Russian national
art. Manufacturing traditions have been
developed for many centuries, absorbing
the experience of many generations of
Russian craftsmen.
Chiseled and carved utensils were the
most archaic form of the Russian wooden
utensils which was characterized by
laconic brevity, monumentality and
massiveness.
A peasant made each piece of utensils
by himself from the very beginning and
up to the end. That's why his product
had a unique and individual shape.
There could not be any monotony in
artistic traditions that deeply took
roots in the Russian countryside. Every
single item had an imprint of their
creator's personality.
Wooden spoons in Russia began to be
produced long time ago. The technology
of their manufacturing was simple:
craftsmen chiseled the inner part in a
small log and cut the outer part with a
knife. The handle was round and thick.
The size of such spoon was rather
impressive. Monastic carved and
decorated spoons had some special
elegance. |
